Microwave Engineering Europe - September 2008 - (Page 35) PRODUCTS 35 Converters enable network analysis up to 325 GHz even multiport measurements up to 325 GHz can be implemented Following the successful launch of converters for the 75 GHz to 110 GHz range, Rohde & Schwarz is now offering converters for the ranges 50 GHz to 75 GHz and 220 GHz to 325 GHz. The converters connect directly to analyzers of the company’s ZVA series. No extra hardware is required. With this new equipment, even multiport measurements up to 325 GHz can be implemented for the first time. Network analysis in the millimeter-wave range has — until now — been restricted to two-port measurements. To carry out complete multiport measurements on devices such as couplers, for example, the ports had to be reconnected because it was not possible to measure all S-parameters simultaneously. The four-port network analyzers of the ZVA family together with the company’s converters for the V, W and J bands enable measurements up to 325 GHz for the first time with up to four ports. Results are immediately available, and full multiport system error correction further enhances measurement accuracy. On top of this, the converters offer maximum performance in terms of dynamic range, which exceeds 90 dB at 75 GHz and 60 dB (typical 80 dB) at 325 GHz. This performance level even enables high-blocking filters to be analyzed. Output power is adjustable, which facilitates tests on amplifiers in the development stage, for example. All converters are fully integrated into the network analyzer firmware, which means they can be operated as if they were part of the base unit. Diagrams show the user how to connect the converters. Further, a function that automatically limits output power prevents damage to the converters. The ZVA-Z325 and ZVA-Z75 millimeter-wave converters and the corresponding ZV-WR03 and ZV-WR15 calibration kits are available now. www.mwee.com/210300451 RF & Microwave Solutions Fast. Flexible. The company designed the device to support multiple wireless communications standards on a single RF transceiver card. The IQ modulator is a direct launch RF transmitter device that is designed to provide basestation equipment manufacturers with improved linearity and higher output power while reducing power consumption and operating expenditures for service providers. The TRF370317 meets the requirements of GSM, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA, W-CDMA, and WiMAX, as well as LTE and multi-carrier GSM. It enables conversion from baseband or intermediate frequency directly to RF. Noise floor is -163 dBm/Hz and output third order intercept point (OIP3) is specified at +26.5 dBm. The device is capable of accepting input signals that range from DC to 350 MHz and generating a modulated RF output from 400 MHz up to 4 GHz. The TRF370317 can interface with a variety of DACs. When coupled with the company’s DAC5688, a 16-bit, 800-MSPS dual interpolating DAC, the TRF370317 provides a highly linear, compact solution for multi-carrier implementations. (The DAC5688 integrates phase, gain, and DC offset adjustments for performance optimization.) Operating from a single 5-V supply, the modulator is capable of driving a singleended 50-ohm load without any external matching components. Output compression of 12 dBm, unadjusted carrier leakage of -40 dBm (at 2 GHz) and unadjusted sideband suppression of -50 dBc (at 2GHz) all serve to keep signal quality high and simplify transmitter design. www.mwee.com/210300476 To find out more, call (800) 344-2412 or visit www.trilithic.com.
