The signal generator can also be configured to address the special requirements of the aerospace and defense sector. The SMBV-K6 option lets users generate complex pulse scenarios. If a broadband external I/Q source such as the the company’s AFQ100B is included in the test setup, signals with an RF bandwidth of 528 MHz can be generated. Since phaselocked coupling of the RF synthesizers is possible across multiple instruments, testing of antennas with phase-coherent signals can also be performed. The design concept includes an integrated sanitizing procedure as well as an optional removable hard disk for security-relevant applications. This ensures that sensitive data always remains in the user’s hands. EuMW 2008 Exhibitor: Stand 803 www.mwee.com/210700049 Compact synthesizer for SATCOM and VHF KuBand microwave communication systems MITEQ has introduced the SLFS synthesizer series which offers a compact and economical solution for SATCOM and VHF Ku-Band microwave communication systems. The synthesizer can be controlled with any notebook or desktop PC with a user friendly GUI available as a download from the company’s website: www.miteq. com/general/software_support.htm. The compact series is available in VHF through Ku-Band with typical bandwidths of 800 MHz, and features an efficient design that dissipates only 2.5 W. The SLFS synthesizer is available in wider bandwidths and custom step sizes as required. The instrument features a modular package that measures 5.76- x 5.76- 1.52-cm and SMA input and output with 7 PIN JST interface connector EuMW 2008 Exhibitor: Stand 1214 www.mwee.com/210700053 Integer-N and Fractional-N synthesizer ICs operate to 9 GHz with phase noise as low as -153 dBc/Hz Hittite Microwave Corporation has released three ultra low phase noise synthesizer ICs for use in cellular, broadband, microwave radio, satellite and military applications that operate at frequencies up to 9 GHz. These innovative integer-N and fractional- N synthesizers are an ideal choice for use in transceiver infrastructure, test and measurement or military radio systems where ultra low phase noise and fast frequency switching is paramount. The HMC700LP4E is a 8 GHz Fractional-N synthesizer IC (9 GHz Integer mode) that features a 16-bit fractional divider, 24-bit delta-sigma modulator, 14-bit reference path divider, ultra low noise phase frequency detector (PFD), a precision controlled charge pump as well as extensive access to various modes of operation via a read/writable serial port. An ideal choice for PLL architectures, this designer friendly part achieves typical phase noise performance of -108 dBc/Hz with Figures of Merit (FOM) on the order of -227 dBc. Reference spurious levels are less than -130 dBc and in-band fractional boundary spurious are typically well below the integrated phase noise. Additional features include cycle slip prevention (CSP) which is a mode that allows faster frequency hopping than conventional PLLs. The device can also alter its output phase in ultra fine micro degree steps, and is capable of direct FSK modulation. The HMC698LP5E and HMC699LP5E are 7 GHz Integer-N synthesizer IC’s with wideband reversible polarity digital PFDs and lock detect outputs. The integrated dividers operate unconditionally from 80 to 7000 MHz with a continuous integer division ratio of N=12 to 259 and N=56 to 519 respectively. Input reference frequencies can be as high as 1300 MHz and single sideband phase noise is measured at -153 dBc/Hz at10 kHz offset from a 100 MHz, 0 dBm signal. The high frequency operation of these two ICs along with ultra low phase noise floor make possible synthesized signal generation with wide loop bandwidth and low N, resulting in signals with fast settling, low spurious and very low phase noise. All three devices are conveniently housed in 5-x 5-mm and 4- x 4-mm RoHS compliant QFN leadless packages and are specified for operation over -40 to +85 degrees Celsius. Samples and evaluation boards for all SMT packaged products are available.
