Microwave Engineering Europe - October 2008 - (Page 52) 52 PRODUCTS Smart GPS reference timing antenna combo with integrated receiver and surge protection A smart GPS reference timing antenna with an integrated GPS receiver from PCTEL eliminates the need for expensive coaxial cable, signal splitters and in-line amplifiers and provides built-in surge protection — all in the same form factor and enclosure as the current “antenna-only” product. A high performance element provides optimal coverage and multipath rejection and is coupled to a low noise amplifier with pre-selector and an inter-stage filter for minimizing RF interference. This makes the antenna with receiver ideal for high RF noise environments encountered in base station installations for Cellular and WiMAX applications. The unit incorporates a 12 channel GPS receiver with 1 Pulse Per Second NMEA 0183 protocol and can support RS232 or RS422 data interfaces. This smart GPS reference timing antenna combo is available with a variety of rugged mounting options. www.mwee.com/210605258 1.8-V GPS modules target handheld devices 545 L 520 L GPS receiver modules NEO-5D and NEO-5G from u-blox operate at 1.8 V and are specifically designed for battery powered navigation and tracking devices. They claim to be the first modules to operate at 1.8 V, which reduces power by 40 percent or more compared to its predecessors and enables high performance and low power consumption. Based on the company’s u-blox 5 positioning engine, the modules come in a miniature 12 x 16 x 2.4 mm package and boast SuperSense® acquisition and tracking sensitivity of -160 dBm. A ROM-based architecture does not require a costly external Flash EPROM, making the modules ideal for high-volume consumer products. While NEO-5D is optimized for low cost thanks to its crystal-based design, NEO-5Q offers KickStart, a fast weak-signal acquisition technology that boosts acquisition performance and ensures quick positioning regardless of signal positions and antenna size. Like all of the company’s modules, the NEO-5D and NEO5G support its AssistNow, the freely available service that enhances the time-to-first-fix to 1 second. www.mwee.com/210605272 545L 500 S 530 L Attributes • SMT Broadband Devices • Ultra-Low Insertion Loss • Flat Frequency Response • One Piece Construction • Orientation Insensitive* • Tape and Reel, Surface Mountable • Rugged Ceramic Construction • RoHS Compliant • Unit-to-Unit Performance Repeatability * Except 500 Series Applications • Optoelectronics • High Speed Data Communications • SONET – OC192, OC768 • Broadband Microwave/ Millimeter-Wave • Broadband Test Equipment • Broadband DC Block / Bypass, 40+ GHz ATC Series 545 L 530 L 520 L 500 S Operating Response 16 KHz to 40+ GHz 16 KHz to 18 GHz 160 KHz to 16 GHz 1 GHz to 40 GHz Insertion Loss < 0.5dB 1dB max. 1dB max. 1dB max.
