Physician's Practice - November 2008 - (Page 14) LETTERS get that information, one member of each group must register to gain access to the CMS Computer Services, a process that takes at least four hours. This first person is deemed the “security officer” and cannot gain access to the data but can approve other group members to access the data. That means a second group member must spend several hours registering to access the data. Would it have been that hard for CMS to send a single report to each practice? Of course not, but transparency is not one of our government’s notable assets. Second, once you have access to the data, all you are given is percentages. As an example, my data indicated that I had seen 24 diabetic patients in the six-month period and only reported data on 18 of them. When I queried my EMR, I found 33 diabetics, with the proper codes submitted on all 33. But CMS does not give access to the raw data, so I have no way to know which nine patients are not included and which six did not have PQRI codes reported. Was it an error by my clearinghouse, by CMS, or by my EMR? I will never know. How in the world can I correct the system if I have no idea where the breakdown is?
