Recently, member companies of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America enhanced the PhRMA Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals – a voluntary Code developed in 2002 as part of an ongoing effort to ensure ethical marketing practices. Among its changes, the revised Code: · Prohibits distribution of non-educational items, or “reminder” objects with a company or product logo, to healthcare providers and their staff · Prohibits sales representatives from providing restaurant meals to healthcare professionals · Includes more detailed standards regarding the independence of CME and new principles on the responsible use of non-patient identified prescriber data · Adds new provisions for training sales representatives about applicable laws, regulations and industry codes of practice that govern interactions with healthcare professionals PhRMA member companies will continue to provide up-to-date, accurate information about medicines and treatments in accordance with the Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals, as well as all applicable laws and regulations, so that patients can benefit from the latest treatments and live longer, healthier and more productive lives.
