She was part of the Clinical Faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine from 1984 to 1994. She has been in private practice from 1976 and currently lectures nationally and internationally on the subject of PMS. He is on the editorial boards of Consultant and Consultant for Pediatrics and contributes monthly articles to both publications. Dr. Shahady has received many awards for his innovative work. In 2004, he earned the President’s Recognition Award from the Florida Academy of Family Physicians and the Award of Merit for dedication to international primary care education from the Lebanese Society of Family Medicine. Edward K. Silberman, MD Vice-Chair for Adult Services, Department of Psychiatry, Tufts New England Medical Center Steven A. King, MD, MS Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, New York University School of Medicine Dr. King is a board-certified psychiatrist and specialist in pain medicine and a licensed acupuncturist. He is also the Director of Pain Management, Maimonides Medical Center. Dr. King serves on the International Association for the Study of Pain Task Force on Taxonomy and chaired the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-IV and DSM-IV-TR committees on Pain Disorders. He is the author of the Pain Management column in Psychiatric Times. Dr. Silberman’s academic work has centered on teaching and administration of educational programs for medical students and residents. He has had major responsibility for a third-year medical student clerkship program and has directed residency training programs at two medical schools. He has taught in more than 40 national programs on topics related to education and faculty development in psychiatry and contributed journal articles in these areas. Dr. Silberman has designed and edited a book on psychiatric practice for trainees and young psychiatrists, and has conceived and coedited the only existing comprehensive textbook on psychiatric education and faculty development. He has served on the Executive Committees of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training and the Association for Academic Psychiatry. Geoffry McEnany, RN, PhD, CS Associate Professor, School of Health and Environment, University of Massachusetts, Lowell Gene Usdin, MD Senior Psychiatrist Emeritus, Ochsner Clinic Much of Dr. McEnany’s teaching is devoted to various topics related to psychopharmacology, sleep, and the care of persons diagnosed with psychiatric illnesses. His current research is looking at the impact of gabapentin on sleep and hot flash regulation in midlife women. In addition to his academic work, Dr. McEnany maintains a small private practice in Boston. Rene J. Muller, PhD Dr. Usdin is the clinical professor emeritus of Psychiatry at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He has edited 17 books, served on the editorial boards of 14 journals, and written numerous articles and book chapters. Dr. Usdin has received many awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Psychiatrists for Outstanding Contributions to and Achievements in American Psychiatry. In 1998, he was awarded an American Psychiatric Association Special Presidential Commendation. Crisis Intervention Service, Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore Sumer D. Verma, MD Dr. Muller evaluated psychiatric patients in the emergency room at three hospitals in Baltimore between 1994 and 2005. A compilation of his articles written for Psychiatric Times based on that experience, Psych ER: Psychiatric Patients Come to the Emergency Room, was published by the Analytic Press in 2003. He has recently completed a book that is best described as a critical and prescriptive look at the profession of psychiatry. Ronald Pies, MD Jeff Victoroff, MD Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Tufts University School of Medicine Editor-in-Chief, Psychiatric Times Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology and Psychiatry, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California Ronald Pies, MD, is Professor of Psychiatry and Lecturer on Bioethics & Humanities at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse; and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. Dr. Pies is also Editor-inChief of the Psychiatric Times. He is, with S. Jacobson and I. Katz, author of Clinical Manual of Geriatric Psychopharmacology, as well as several other professional textbooks. His most recent book is Everything Has Two Handles: The Stoic's Guide to the Art of Living. Dr. Victoroff studied the Great Books at St. John's College, receiving his BA in 1974. He received a Master's in Social Science from the University of Chicago in 1978, and his MD in 1982 from Case western Reserve University School of Medicine. After residencies in neurology and psychiatry at Harvard-affiliated hospitals and a fellowship in Neurobehavior at UCLA, he joined the faculty of the Keck School of Medicine. Since Sept. 11, he has focused on an interdisciplinary understanding of human aggression, violence and terrorism. His current research investigates how hormones interact with political attitudes, religiosity, and aggressivity among Palestinian teens. Edward J.
