RFID World Conference Catalog 2008 - (Page 11) 11 inDuSTry Track prOgram Hospital and Healthcare Track RFID World 2008 will focus on six specific Industry Tracks that use RFID technology for a multitude of business solutions, including increasing safety, reducing costs, and automating processes — just to name a few of the business solutions track-and-trace technology provides. Hospital and Healthcare RFID offers a hospital and healthcare organization a compelling ROI by increase operating efficiency, inventory management and, ultimately, improving the quality of care. This educational track provides information and insight into mobile asset and patient tracking technologies, workflow analysis, and integrated applications in a hospital and healthcare setting. Attendees will understand how to leverage existing RF infrastructure within the hospital, to plan and implement a phased-in approach, placing RFID tags on products most vulnerable to counterfeiting and diversion as a first step. WHO sHOuLD ATTenD: • Hospital executives, CIOs, COOs, IT executives • Medical device manufacturers and distributors • Materials managers, inventory managers • Healthcare IT organizations • IT and networking managers in hospitals and acute care facilities Agenda Tuesday September 9 | 2:00 pm rOi: BuilDing a STraTegic caSe FOr rFiD Understanding the bottom line benefit of RFID is critical achieving success internally. This presentation offers concrete ways to measure the RFID impact on any organization, including productivity gains, increased accountability, increased enterprise-wide visibility — in short, how RFID enables speed, efficiency and accuracy in any organization. – Ben Sperling, McKesson DevelOpmenT anD apprOval OF meDical DeviceS inTegraTeD wiTh rFiD. This presentation will entail providing details of the government regulations in RFID. Specifically, an attempt will be made to provide information in the applications of RFID in healthcare. For healthcare, the effort will be to identify RFID application opportunities, RFID integration into combination devices, such as drugs and devices, and the verification and validation required to qualify the RFID integration into the medical device segment. A particular sample device integrated with RFID technology will be taken through the development process. This device will go through a series of verification and validation and support specific FDA design control, 21 CFR Part 820.30, as well as the ISO-13471, FDA QSR and the ISO-14385 regulations to dictate the validity of the RFID integration into the device. The device will then be run through a series of tests to provide consistency of the device functionality with the RFID technology. Finally, documentation submissions required for FDA approval will be provided that will provide a glimpse of the scope of the RFID integration in the healthcare segment. 3:15 pm 4:30 pm managing mOveaBle meDical aSSeTS in Our rFiD enaBleD FuTure Trying to manage moveable medical equipment can sometimes feel like herding cats. Yet it must be done effectively to insure that the nurses and the CFO’s are satisfied. And we must keep patient safety at the forefront of our minds. This session will discuss observations on key elements of effective moveable medical equipment management gained from nearly 80 hospitals where UHS has either provided asset management software or is delivering a significant level of direct asset management services. Sessions attendees will learn about: • Methods and costs to manage equipment • The ‘Real’ way to measure utilization • Rules of thumb for improving overall equipment utilization • ‘Leakage’ and ‘Shrinkage’ areas and what to do about them • Bar coding as today’s technology to enhance tracking capabilities • Putting the RFID promise into perspective with a structured framework. How far you can expect to get without RFID, and what can be achieved with RFID. www.rFiD-wOrlD.cOm/2008 http://www.rfid-world.com/2008
