Manufacturing & Automation: Integrating RFID & RTLS for Optimized Operations and Control Agenda Tuesday September 9 | 2:00 pm cHAIR: DAn MuLLen, execuTIVe DIRecTOR, AIM gLOBAL The focus of this series of educational sessions is the role RFID, RTLS, and convergent technologies play in optimizing the economic, production and maintenance challenges in the manufacturing environment. These sessions are a valuable educational experience for professionals at all levels of the organization, each designed to showcase advanced tracking technology and how to use these solutions to improve your product’s time to market; manage business risk; increase operational efficiencies through automation, and more. wip Tracking anD manuFacTuring Many early RFID deployments have frustrated end-users because they took a long time to deploy and they did not address real life operational needs with positive investment return. This presentation illustrates the methodology behind this RFID implementation, the challenges and the value derived by the customer. 3:15 pm caSe STuDy: invenTOry cOnTrOl anD managemenT in The peTrOchemical, Oil & gaS inDuSTry Understand the challenges, implementation plan and outcomes of RFID and auto ID solutions as they are applied to a major oil & gas drilling/petrochemical operation. The company uses pallets to move and ship large copper spools of product to and from its trading partners. Freeport recently replaced all of it wooden pallets with a pool of plastic pallets and has placed RFID tags on the pallets for better visibility, security and control of the pallets. In this presentation, the project managers from Freeport and Fluensee will discuss the cost savings with RFID, the benefits achieved since implementation and the challenges and successes they encountered during the full-scale implementation. Specifically, Freeport will discuss how it used RFID to address its business goals of: • Improved customer service through more reliable product delivery • Protecting valuable assets • Improving asset utilization • Reducing asset inventory and accounting costs wednesday September 10 | 2:00 pm acTive rFiD-BaSeD aSSeT Tracking anD lOcaTiOn-BaSeD ServiceS Tracking This presentation will cover the emerging area of active-RFID Technology, including business uses, specific applications, assessing technology options, user interfaces and recommendations for project managers. 3:15 pm inexpenSively DeplOying high value rFiD prOjecTS in manuFacTuring FaciliTieS Manufacturers continue to struggle to justify in-house RFID projects, even when required to affix RFID tags to their products because of customer mandates. Our experience indicates that much of the difficulty with project justification lies in the extremely high expense and business risk associated with interfacing RFID to a company’s main Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. This presentation will review a variety of high-value manufacturing use cases that are fast, inexpensive, and relatively easy to deploy without requiring an expensive and timeconsuming interface to the organization’s ERP system. Several software tools to aid these simple deployments will also be discussed. – Scott Thomas, Industrial Engineer, Intel Corporation 4:30 pm uSing rFiD & rTlS TO increaSe eFFecTiveneSS OF planT-eQuipmenT Understand how remote monitoring, repair and automation applications using active RFID and wide area networking solutions decrease costs and improve efficiency. www.rFiD-wOrlD.cOm/2008 http://www.rfid-world.com/2008
