Family Philanthropy Conference 2009 Brochure - (Page 2) Dear Colleague: At a recent conversation in Washington, one of the nation’s premier experts on politics, policy, and philanthropy suggested that in these times “philanthropy will be asked to do more than ever before—despite the economic impact upon our endowments.” Those words are both a call to action and a basis for thoughtful conversations about our role in society today. They make the 2009 Family Philanthropy Conference more important—and probably more timely—than any in many, many years! It is in this spirit that we write to encourage you to join us, February 1–3, in Indianapolis for “At the Crossroads: Honoring Legacy & Forging New Traditions,” the Council on Foundations’ annual Family Philanthropy Conference. At the Crossroads promises to be the premier family philanthropy event of 2009, with three jam-packed days of learning, networking, and collaboration. Whether you are a family member, staff, trustee, or donor advisor, you will want to be part of this conference. Our content planners have purposely designed this meeting to link tradition and legacy with family philanthropy’s future role in our society. To help you get the most out of your conference, we have created several tracks allowing you to pursue deeper exploration of relevant topics. Or, you can customize your conference experience to best meet your personal needs. Whichever path you choose, this conference is designed to provide you with the most timely and relevant material supporting your work in today’s economic challenges. In addition to the quality and relevance of our plenary sessions, keynote speakers, and the multiple workshops, the Indianapolis philanthropic community has designed several site sessions showing the work of family foundations in serving the needs of the Indianapolis area. Among those site sessions are: • Stop Waste, Eliminate Hunger, and Empower People = Second Helpings • Bringing Arts to the Community • Realizing Tangible Economic Benefits from Investments in Sports • Public Education: Working Together to Create Charter Schools These are challenging times. One’s first response would be to consider taking a pass on this year’s conference. But we’re convinced the programming is designed to help you respond to these times in ways that just might make this the most important Family Philanthropy Conference ever! Sincerely, Steve Gunderson President and CEO Council on Foundations Frank Wideman President The Self Family Foundation 2 Family philanThropy ConFerenCe
