Why do good court officers decide not to take
another office? They did a great job in the present office. They
have put in massive hours working to keep the court vibrant
and help it grow. They were team players in every sense of the
word. Why did they slowly lose their fire? Some of the reasons
good officers do not stay active include the following:
The good court officer wants to follow the bylaws and
correct protocol. National and state officers must assure
the court officer that it is important and necessary to follow
the bylaws and correct procedure. Allowing courts to "make
their own rules" or make changes that are not allowed is
disheartening to the court officer who has worked to follow
Fellow officers who are poor performers impact the whole
court. It is said in a jazz band, the band is only as good as
the worst player. No matter how well the band performs,
everyone hears the worst player. When the weakest link is
allowed to be an officer, everyone is dragged down to their
level and work cannot be completed.
A pat on the back
Everyone enjoys a well-deserved pat on the back.
Rewarding an officer who works hard and gives her best
makes her feel good and that she is an important part of
the Catholic Daughters. Find out what makes the officer
feel most appreciated. Then do it often.
Caring about people
Court officers and the members must show care and

concern for each other. Pray for one another. Showing real
care for each member and officer creates an organization
that will welcome new members while supporting
established members. This is carried out in the Circle of
Love which is the heart and soul of Catholic Daughters.
Looking at the big picture
Looking only at the local court can create a very small
window for seeing the whole world. The work of the officers
is to give the big picture. That in turn will give the officers
and indeed even the court purpose. Be willing to listen and
learn about all the needs of those who do not have the
many amenities we enjoy in America.
Pursuing their passions
Talented officers are passionate. Allowing officers
the opportunity to pursue their passion improves their
productivity and job satisfaction. Officers who are allowed
to pursue their passions are five times more productive
than the norm.
If work is fun, officers will not only perform better but
will also will be much more willing to take another officer
position to share their joy with others. Officers need to
experience the great joy in being of service to the Lord
through the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Support the officers in your court. Enjoy the many talents of
each member of Catholic Daughters. Share the joy in serving
the Lord with each member of the Catholic Daughters.
Following the points listed will ensure that the Catholic
Daughters of the Americas will be alive and active for our
daughters, granddaughters and even great-granddaughters.
This is our legacy to pass on to those generations.
