We are One
First Vice National Regent
National Leadership Chairman
eadership is really about life. As a daughter, wife,
mother, sister, or grandmother, you are called to be
a leader in your home and with your family. That is
where the first skills of a leader are learned. The same rules
that apply to life apply to leadership. Where and how does
a person, family or court start?
The first and foremost rule for our courts to be great
and good is that all must work together to become one.
Resistance, especially to change, causes a split in our
courts and the loss of the ability to become one.
Never argue with the one in charge. There may be
differing opinions. Ask whether you can give yours. No
room for discussion? Be courteous. Attitude shown by
rolling of eyes, exasperation or rudeness only causes more
dissent and a negative feeling for the court.
Don't criticize the court regent or any officer. Much more
work will be accomplished by working as one. Negativity
during a meeting is uncomfortable. Members may choose
not to attend a meeting when criticism is a part of the court
Give 110 percent effort all the time. Be willing to make the
extra effort. More effort means more results. You will seem
motivated and helpful. Your court will be alive and well if
every member gives more than just what is expected.
If things go wrong, reflect on the lesson taught, then
move on. Smile and start again tomorrow.
Be flexible and willing to listen to other ideas. Always

give your best, and your court will flourish and grow.
When representing the Catholic Daughters, look better
than the average, and you'll be treated better than the
average. People will notice and be more interested in being
a part of this organization. Appearance is key to success.
Opportunities are limited only by your desire to work
and your imagination. Only you can guide your court to be
more than ever imagined. Be open to new ideas or changes,
especially from a new member.
Fear of failure can weigh you down like an anchor and will
prevent your court from going places.
Don't fear failure, but know that getting where you're
going will take work. Working together as one will enhance
the life of your court.
You are part of a team, not just an individual. Every
member of Catholic Daughters has special gifts and talents.
Help those who may be a weak link. Every court should
follow this rule. It is no longer me, but us. You are a leader
in Catholic Daughters. Working as one, every court will
attract new members.
Joining Catholic Daughters is an opportunity to make the
world better for all God's people. Treat it like an adventure,
and it will be one of the happiest times of life. Get the most
out of it. Be involved in the many aspects of the court. This
opportunity may never come again. Savor your time in
Catholic Daughters. Both you and your court will be the
best that can be!
