From June to September the weather is perfect, and there’s a clarity in the lemon and jasmine scented air that’s compelling. Almost as if you’re seeing through newer, keener eyes. Curious the way the vineyards are planted under the olive trees. The grounds at the Villa Le Scale are gorgeous with pomegranate trees, roses, hydrangeas, passion-flower, hibiscus and magnolia. There are nooks and terraces, pools and fountains and views—almost a 360° view of the Amalfi coast; lovely indeed. This villa is so beautiful, so well appointed, so romantic, so comfortable, the staff so amazing you’ll long to stay and stay and stay. If I had a caveat…I just don’t. That’s not completely accurate, there is the walking. Capri is glorious, but the roads and walking paths are not well suited for traffic—in fact during season, unless you’re a full time resident, autos i.e. rental cars etc. are not allowed on Capri. There are taxis and such, but I can tell you, the winding narrow roads make for a white knuckled ride for the, ah the uninitiated; ergo the walking. The top of your thighs and your calves will mount a protest, but there is an unexpected gift in walking, biking, or exploring Capri by motor scooter.
