Conformity Magazine - February 2009 - (Page 44) • Transformers, including distribution transformers, power transformers; • Sound and imaging equipment, including DVD / video players and recorders, video projectors, video game consoles; • Local room heating products; • Central heating products using hot air to distribute heat (other than combined heat and power); • Domestic and commercial ovens (electric, gas, microwave), including incorporated into cookers; • Domestic and commercial hobs and grills, including those incorporated into cookers; • Professional washing machines, dryers and dishwashers; • Non-tertiary coffee machines; • Networked standby losses of energy using products; • Domestic uninterrupted power supplies (UPS). Additional measures are also being considered that would cover telecommunications networking equipment, and a variety of industrial and medical electronic and electrical equipment. The full group of products to be addressed can be found in the working plan report at www.conformity.com/2662 (see pages 33 and 34). Adoption of measures for these products is unlikely before 2011-2012, but the list of products clearly demonstrates the EU’s commitment to reduce environmental impacts of most electrically-powered products over the long term. In addition to continuing to extend the range of electricallypowered equipment covered by the directive, discussions are also taking place at the Community level to amend and extend the essential provisions of the directive to cover a wider range of products. This could include products not necessarily using energy in themselves but which have an impact on energy consumption (e.g., double glazed window units, insulation products etc). Any change of this kind would need approval of the European Parliament. Remember that these implementing measures fall under the CE marking regime. So, if you intend to supply into the EU any of the products covered either now or in the future, Estimated Date of Application April 2010 April 2009 May 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010 2010/2011 2010/2011 2010/2011 2010/2011 2011/2011 2011/2012 2011/2012 2011/2012 2011/2012 2011/2012 Implementing Measure Voted Regulations undergoing final EU Parliamentary Scrutiny and WTO Clearance Standby and Off Mode Consumption of Household and Office Equipment External Power Supplies Simple Set Top Boxes Studies finished - Draft Measures in progress TVs Domestic Lighting (I) covering non-reflecting Incandescents, halogen and compact fluorescents with integrated ballast Tertiary (Non-domestic) Lighting Boilers (replacing 92/42/EEC) Water heaters (replacing 92/42/EEC) Domestic Wet Appliances Domestic Cold Appliances (replacing 96/57/EC) Commercial refrigerators and freezers, including chillers, display cabinets and vending machines Electric motors 1-150 kW, water pumps (commercial buildings, drinking water, food, agriculture), circulators in buildings, ventilation fans (non-residential) Residential room conditioning appliances (air con and ventilation) Imaging Equipment PCs and Monitors Still in study phase (to complete mid 2009) Solid fuel small combustion installations (in particular for heating) Laundry dryers Vacuum cleaners Complex set top boxes (with conditional access and/or functions that are always on) Domestic lighting (II) – including reflectors and luminaires Table 1 Conformity february 2009 http://www.conformity.com/2662
