Conformity Magazine - April 2008 - (Page 76) Hot Off The Press Product News AR Extends Frequency Of “Bent Element” Log Periodic Antenna To 6 GHz AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation has redesigned its popular AT5080 log periodic antenna to extend its frequency coverage. The new model AT6080 extends from 80 MHz to 6 GHz for radiated EMC testing. The exceptionally broad frequency range addresses existing RF susceptibility requirements as well as anticipated future developments. The frequency range is also matched to work directly with AR “W and “S” Series RF power amplifiers. The newest member of AR’s family of log periodic antennas that feature the company’s unique “bent element” approach, the AT6080 is ideal for use in both traditional applications and new compact chambers. The proprietary “bent element” design provides a size reduction of approximately 60% compared to traditional log periodics without sacrificing key electrical performance such as gain and bandwidth. The size reduction minimizes field loss that results from “room loading.” This is a considerable problem when conventional log periodics are used in small enclosures. For more information, contact AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation, 160 School House Rd. Souderton, PA 18964 at 215-723-8181 or at www.ar-worldwide.com. For an applications engineer, call 800-933-8181. Custom Power Supply Delivered in Just 9-Days Acopian’s Online Power System Builder is a user-friendly web tool that speeds the design of custom power systems that the company can deliver to the purchaser within 9 days. Through a series of menus, the online tool steps the user though typical power supply specifications and options. By inputting his specific requirements, the user can completely configure the product, have it manufactured and delivered within 9 days. The Acopian On-line Power System Builder can be accessed at: www.acopianpowersupplies.com/powersys.aspx Lightweight, Handheld Electrostatic Discharge Event Detector A new lightweight, handheld electrostatic discharge event detector capable of distinguishing various levels of ESD events is available immediately from the 3M Electronic Solutions Division. The 3M brand ESD Pro Event Detector is a hand-held indicator of ESD events that detects and counts discharges and shows the relative electrical strength of each ESD event on a bar graph display. The portable, easy-to-use 3M ESD Pro Event Detector serves as a quick measure of the effectiveness of ESD protection, which is particularly important in sensitive component (Class 0) applications such as electronics assembly, semiconductor, medical, and disk drive device manufacturing. Small and thin enough to fit in a shirt pocket, ESD Pro offers simple-to-use variable settings of discharge alarm thresholds to detect and count only ESD events that exceed the user-set threshold. On each discharge, ESD Pro provides an audio alarm and a 10-LED bargraph to show the relative strength of detected ESD events. If the discharge exceeds the set alarm level, the LEDs turn red. The unit’s four-digit counter provides a count of discharges occurring above the set threshold, while disregarding those programmed as insignificant. ESD Pro can measure multiple consecutive discharges in an ESD event. For more information about this and other 3M ESD control products, visit www.3M.com/static or www.credencetech.com. New Shipping Products Protect Parts from Static Damage L.Gordon Packaging, a company that converts a variety of recyclable and biodegradable ESD materials into products that protect static sensitive devices, can now provide their many handling and shipping items made from cleanroom acceptable dissipative plastic corrugate. Protects parts and delicate leads from physical and static damage during processing, final shipment and is safe for long term storage. EMF Measurement Software for RF Emissions as Portable One-box Solution The R&S RFEX-Fast EMF measurement software from Rohde & Schwarz enables engineers and technicians to quickly and easily validate compliance with legally defined emission limits. Network operators, test houses, service providers, and regulatory authorities can all benefit from its efficiency and ease of use. The portable one-box measurement system together with the R&S FSL spectrum analyzer and the R&S TS-EMF isotropic antenna is especially suitable for performing measurements outdoors or in highly inaccessible locations. The compact R&S RFEX-Fast software solution is designed for measurements on equipment such as base stations and broadcast transmitters; plus, it is also ideal for fixed-site transmission systems or WLAN infrastructures. The software performs the measurements in a matter of seconds and displays the individual radio services. This extension adds to the available list of IEC standards for which TÜV currently has accreditation, increasing the number to 25 available standards. This CB scope extension will allow TÜV SÜD America continued testing capabilities in the OFF (IT and Office Equipment) category and additional testing capabilities in the following categories: MED (Electrical Equipment for Medical Use), HOUS (Household and Similar Equipment), MEAS (Measuring Instruments), TRON (Electronics Entertainment). In addition to this scope extension, on February 13, 2008 TÜV’s New Brighton, Minnesota facility joined the IECEE CB Scheme as an ACTL (Associated CB Testing Laboratory), offering the Office Equipment Scope which includes IEC 60950-1 (1Ed) and IEC 60950-1 (2Ed), respectively.
