Conformity Magazine - July 2008 - (Page 34) The Headquarter News Informer Provided by the International Association for Radio, Telecommunications and Electromagnetics In April 2008, iNARTE, Inc. and Kansai Electronic Industry Development Center, KEC, Japan, celebrated a ten year relationship. KEC administers both the iNARTE EMC and Product Safety Engineering Certification programs in Japan. Today, there are over 600 iNARTE members in Japan, and more than 200 candidates took the EMC examination in Osaka last February. iNARTE headquarters recently hosted Mr. Ihara, Senior Managing Director of KEC, together with Mr. Kawahara and Mr. Soga for the 2008 KEC business review. A ten year commemorative plaque was presented to KEC. What You Need to Become Certified? iNARTE Certification is available to practicing Engineers and Technicians in the following fields: Telecommunications; Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC); Electrostatic Discharge (ESD); Product Safety Engineering (PS). Details of these programs and the levels of Certifications available can be found at www.narte.org but, in general, the following requirements need to be met: • Nine years total experience for an Engineer (may include education years); • Six years total experience for a Technician (may include education years); • Academic records to support educational background, and a detailed resume; • References from supervisors and peers (and, in certain instances, from customers); • Achieve a 70% average passing grade during an open book examination, consisting of two four hour test papers; • Prepare 10 new examination questions that are acceptable to the Certification Review Committee. These steps can be completed in any order. Candidates can retake either or both parts of the examination as often as required. Examination results remain valid for up to five years. Certification candidates can sit for the examination during one of the iNARTE supported symposia, or at any of the events listed below marked **, where iNARTE will proctor examinations. On-line registration forms are available at www.narte.org/h/examregform.asp. Why is Certification Important? Certification is the preferred way in which a professional practitioner can validate their credentials. The right certification program is one that independently assesses the individual’s skills, knowledge, experience and work ethics to present an overall picture of that person’s total dedication and value to their chosen profession. iNARTE is the only independent, internationally recognized certification agency, operating under the guidelines of ISO 17024 in our selected fields. The benefits for iNARTE Certification include: • iNARTE Certification demonstrates competence, training, expertise, professional conduct and adherence to ethical practices, and differentiates the “can doers” from others; Upcoming Events • July 21-25: EUROEM 2008, European Electromagnetics, Lausanne, Switzerland www.euroem.org • August 12-13, 2008, AFCEA 30th Annual Conference and Expo, Fort Bragg, NC www.afcea-nc.org/modules/mastop_publish/?tac=expo • **August 18-22: EMC 2008 In Detroit, MI.
