A key on-line resource for product safety engineers has been revamped. Safety Link (www.safetylink.com), the comprehensive web-based portal that contains hundreds of links of interest to product safety engineers, has been completely redesigned, and now offers easier navigation to electrical product safety resources and provides more industry news. SafetyLink was created in 1995 by Arthur Michael, the publisher of International Product Safety News. The web site has now hosted just under 900,000 visitors since its inception. According to a report posted on Ars Technica (www.arstechnica.com), a web site that reports on technology and technology trends, organic electrolytes are being replaced with a non-flammable solid polymer substance that retains its shape and cannot leak out of the battery. Although solid polymers are typically less conductive than other substances, scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute say that they have adjusted other elements to ensure acceptable performance.
