NewsBreaks hazard to consumers. QVC says that it has receive nine reports of flames inside or coming out of the heaters, and 70 additional reports of smoking, overheating, sparking or melting. However, there have been no reports of injuries. The recalled space heaters were sold on QVC’s televised shopping programs and its web site from December 2007 through March 2008 for between $65 and $80. Gas Dryers: Miele, Inc. of Princeton, NJ has recalled about 3100 of its residential super-large gas clothing dryers. The company says that, if improperly installed, the dryer’s internal gas fittings can loosen, posing a risk of a gas leak. Miele has received 11 reports worldwide in which consumers reported smelling gas after the installation of their dryers, and a report of a fire causing property damage. However, there have been no reports of injuries. The recalled dryers were sold through Miele distributors nationwide between March and December 2007 for about $1300. Counterfeit Circuit Breakers: Finally, Specialty Lamp International Inc. of Deerfield Beach, FL is recalling about 371,000 counterfeit circuit breakers labeled as “Square D,” manufactured in China. Specialty Lamp says that Square D has determined that the circuit breakers are counterfeit, and can fail to trip when they are overloaded, posing a fire hazard to consumers. The company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the recalled circuit breakers, but has initiated the recall to prevent future incidents or injuries. The counterfeit circuit breakers were sold through electrical product distributors nationwide from May through June 2006 for between $3 and $23.
