NewsBreaks One year ago Analog Cellular Service Sunset Date Reaffirmed “The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has upheld its so-called ‘sunset date’ for the provisioning of analog cellular service. After February 18, 2008, wireless license holders who currently operate cellular phone systems using the Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) technology will no longer be required to provide such services… However, the FCC did agree to take specific steps to ensure that analog-only cellular subscribers are provided with adequate notice of a carrier’s decision to terminate analog service.” Conformity, September 2007 Five years ago Wal-Mart to Require RFID Tags “The nation’s largest retailer says that it will soon require major suppliers to utilize radio frequency identification (RFID) tags in connection with large shipments…Wal-Mart will require its biggest 100 suppliers to apply RFID tags to pallet shipments by 2005 to facilitate more rapid shipping and receiving of merchandise. The new policy was announced by a company executive at a retail trade show in early June. WalMart’s new policy is expected to provide RFID technology with a significant boost, speeding its adoption by other retailers.” Conformity, September 2003 Ten years ago FCC Eases Regulations For Equipment Authorization “The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a final ruling on its proposal earlier this year to implement sweeping changes in its rules for radio frequency equipment that includes the easing of testing requirements for several types of devices…The new regulations become effective October 5, 1998.
