Conformity - November 2008 - (Page 34) The Headquarter News Informer Provided by the International Association for Radio, Telecommunications and Electromagnetics training centers will not award recognized degrees and may even be staffed by an individual tutor. Attendees will need to pass the iNARTE examination for certification. Accredited Training Centers: Accredited schools, colleges or universities that offer degrees or diplomas with substantial course materials pertinent to one or more of our disciplines, and from which graduates are qualified to enter a career in industry for which iNARTE offers validation of credentials. Graduates from Accredited Training Centers are eligible to join iNARTE as a Junior Engineer/Technician within the Telecommunications sector, or as an Affiliate Engineer/Technician in other sectors without further examination by iNARTE. Regional Partners: Schools, colleges, universities or companies who enter into an Agreement with iNARTE to advertise and promote iNARTE interests in a defined geographic territory (usually outside of the U.S.). They solicit candidates for certification, complete the registration applications for candidates and collect all candidate information and references if necessary. Also they provide training in one or more of the iNARTE disciplines, as well as in iNARTE exam preparation training. They schedule and proctor iNARTE certification examinations, and act as liaison between iNARTE and regional candidates. Full details of the iNARTE programs and listings of our test/ training centers can be found at www.narte.org. On-line registration forms are available at www.narte.org/h/examregform.asp. To take advantage of testing during one of the following listed events identified with **, simply select “Special Event Location.” Since writing our last Informer column, iNARTE has participated in the IEEE EMC 2008 Symposium in Detroit, and the ESD Association Symposium in Tucson. Attendees at EMC 2008 numbered just over 1350, and iNARTE was delighted at the interest in our Certification programs, and the number of candidates that signed up for our examinations. We learned that many had suffered “redundency” from the regional auto industries, and now wanted to take charge of their careers by validating their credentials and improving their opportunities. That is exactly what iNARTE Certification can do. A somewhat smaller number of candidates took the iNARTE ESD examinations in Tucson, but this is a discipline in which there are several certification opportunities on offer, and choosing the right one to enhance one’s career can be difficult. iNARTE has seen far greater interest in our ESD Certification from Asia than we have from the U.S., in large part because of our international recognition as an independent credentialling agency. In October we were in Austin for the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society (PSES) Symposium, where we once again exhibited our services and offered certification examinations. iNARTE offers examinations in every one of our disciplines at any of these Symposium sessions, so candidates who live close to a symposium venue should take advantage of free proctor services whenever we are in town. In September, our regional partner in Korea, RAPA, administered their second series of EMC Certification Examinations. In 2007, at their first session, less than one third of the candidates achieved a pssing grade. This year, half of those that did not pass in 2007 elected to take a second shot; by studying hard, repeat candidates achieved an 80% passing record in 2008. For iNARTE candidates looking for Authorized Test Centers and Approved or Accredited Training Centers, it has not always been clear which is which, and what each can offer. Here is a brief summary: Authorized Test Centers: Facilities that meet our criteria as defined on the Application form. They have signed an Agreement to follow iNARTE code of ethics, and can proctor exams in any disciplines by prior scheduling, unless accepting walk in candidates. Authorized Test Centers can be established for one time use only for candidates with special needs. Approved Training Centers: Are almost always an Authorized Test Centers also, but have had their training course curricula approved by iNARTE as being pertinent to one or more of our certification disciplines, or license categories.
