Here are the details: Remote-Controlled Toy Helicopter Batteries: Hobbico, Inc. of Champaign, IL is recalling about 11,000 batteries manufactured in China and used in its radio-controlled helicopter kits. Hobbico says that the rechargeable battery can overheat and catch fire while charging, posing a fire hazard to consumers. The company has received 28 reports of batteries overheating and/or melting, including 27 reports of flames and minor property damage, but no reports of injuries. The recalled batteries were sold through hobby stores nationwide and online from November 2007 through March 2008 for about $35. Coffee Makers: Sears, Roebuck and Company and Kmart Corporation have jointly recalled about 145,000 Kenmore and Kenmore Elite brand coffee makers manufactured in China. The company says that the wiring in the coffee maker can overheat, posing burn and fire hazards to consumers. Sears has received 20 reports of coffee makers overheating, including 12 fires, but no reports of injuries. The recalled coffee makers were sold at Sears, Sears Hardware and Kmart stores nationwide, as well as through Sears.com and Kmart. com from August 2007 through April 2008 for between $30 and $100. Car Chargers: Intercontinental Merchandising Services, Inc. of Fullerton, CA has recalled about 210,000 car chargers used with its Power System Plus 3 Million Candlepower spotlights, and manufactured in China. The company says that the recalled car chargers are incompatible with the spotlight’s battery, which can cause it to overcharge inside of a vehicle, posing a fire or burn hazard to consumers. Intercontinental has received two reports of spotlights overheating while being charged, but no reports of injuries. The recalled car chargers were sold through Sears and Kmart retail stores nationwide from October 2007 through June 2008 for about $20. Countertop Water Dispensers: Greenway Home Products of Northwood, OH is recalling about 44,000 countertop water dispensers manufactured in China. The company says that the internal heating element in the water dispensers could overheat and drop molten metal through ventilation openings in the water dispenser’s base and onto the countertop, posing a fire hazard. Greenway says that it has received one report of a fire involving the recalled water dispenser that resulted in property damage, but no reports of injuries. The water dispensers were sold through discount retailers nationwide from June 2006 through November 2007 for between $70 and $80.
