In comments filed with the Commission in connection with its Notice of Inquiry on BPL, the NTIA urged the FCC to “move forward expeditiously” with its investigation, but also exhorted the Commission to “ensure that other communications services, especially federal government operations, are adequately protected from unacceptable interference.” Conformity, November 2003 From Our “You Can’t Make This Up” Department In an innovative approach to reducing our dependence on foreign oil, the City of San Antonio, TX will reportedly launch a project to harvest methane gas from human waste, and sell the gas for use in running power generators. According to a recent report by Reuters, the city has approved a deal with Ameresco, a Massachusetts-based company, which will reprocess the city’s “biosolids” into natural gas. San Antonio expects that the project will eventually generate about 1.5 million cubic feet of natural gas each day. As a result of the agreement between Ameresco and San Antonio, more than 90% of materials flushed down the city’s toilets and sinks will be recycled. The city reportedly already recycles liquid waste for irrigation, and solid waste is used for compost.
