Conformity Magazine - December 2007 - (Page 54) NewsBreaks continued from page 11 Updated Standards List For The EU’s EMC, R&TTE Directives The Commission of the European Union (EU) has published an updated list of standards that can be used to demonstrate conformity with the essential requirements of the recently revised EMC Directive (2004/108/EC). The list of CEN, CENELEC and ETSI standards was published in the September 25th issue of the Official Journal of the European Union, and replaces all previously published standards list for the directive. Our readers can view the complete list of standards for the EMC Directive at www.conformity.com/1214. The Commission has also published an updated list of standards that can be used to demonstrate conformity with the essential requirements of the R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC). The list of CENELEC and ETSI standards was also published in the September 25th issue of the Official Journal, and replaces all previously published lists for this directive. Our readers can view the complete list of standards for the R&TTE Directive at www.conformity.com/1215. Agilent Technologies Introduces Industry’s First Probing Solution for Oscilloscope Measurements in Extreme Temperatures The Agilent N5450A InfiniiMax extremetemperature extension cable, used with the InfiniiMax Series probing system and Agilent Infiniium oscilloscopes, gives engineers the ability to probe signals at temperatures ranging from -55 C to 150 C. The cable provides an ideal solution for designers working in the cell phone, automotive electronics, storage device and consumer electronics industries who need to validate and characterize their designs while operating within extreme temperature ranges. BI Technologies Develops Ferrite Core Inductor Capable of Operation at High Switching Frequencies EU Says That It Will Revise Toy Safety Rules The Commission of the European Union will reportedly revise the rules regarding the safety of toys, in the wake of the massive recalls earlier this year in the United States of Chinese-made toys. According to a recent report in Business Week, the Commission will update EU guidelines on the use of potentially toxic substances, as well as any components that might harm children. However, the approval process for the updated guidelines could take months, according to the report. Separately, EU Consumer Protection Commissioner Meglena Kuneva has reportedly questioned China’s efforts to comply with EU product safety standards, and said that the EU may impose a ban on some Chinese goods if no progress is made in the coming months. TT electronics BI Technologies Magnetic Components Division, a leading global manufacturer of magnetic transformers, inductors, transceivers and common mode chokes, has developed a through hole ferrite core inductor. Designated the HM37 Series, the inductor is housed in a small bead package designed for automatic pick and place equipment. “The bead package provides low core losses and low DCR losses in a very cost-effective design,” said David Smolik, director of product development for BI Technologies Magnetic Components Division. “Additionally, the ferrite core enables the device to operate at high switching frequencies, making the overall package ideal for desktop voltage regulator applications, including powering microprocessors.
