The revised UL 325 now requires that a residential automatic garage door operator cannot move downward from a partially open position until the operator reverses the door a minimum of two inches. AC Adaptors for Portable DVD Players: Toshiba America Consumer Products, LLC of Wayne, NJ has recalled about 142,000 AC adaptors manufactured in China and sold with Toshiba-brand portable DVD players. The company says that the AC adaptors can fail, causing the portable DVD players to overheat, thereby posing a burn hazard to consumers. Toshiba says that it has received two reports of minor damage to the DVD player, but no reports of injuries. The recalled AC adaptors were sold with portable DVD players through consumer electronic stores nationwide from January 2005 through April 2006 for between $200-300. Convection Ovens: QVC of West Chester, PA is recalling about 32,000 Cook’s Essentials-brand and Denibrand convection ovens manufactured in China. QVC says that wires behind the control panel of the convection ovens can overheat, and pose fire and shock hazards to consumers. The company has received 49 reports of incidents, including five minor burns, five electrical shocks, and 11 incidents of minor property damage. The Cook’s Essentials convection ovens were sold exclusively through QVC, and the Deni brand ovens were sold through various on-line retailers, from October 2006 through May 2007 for about $125. Electric Toasters: QVC has also announced the recall of about 5200 Cooks Essentials-brand electric toasters manufactured in China. According to the company, the toaster can turn on without bread in the slots, and ignite items placed on top of it, posing a fire hazard. QVC has received separate reports of 10 toasters turning on spontaneously, including once incident of fire damage, but no reports of injuries. The recalled toasters were sold through QVC and various other outlets from January 2003 through June 2003 for between $63-69. Air Purifiers: P3 International of New York, NY has recalled about 83,000 IonizAir-brand table top air purifiers. The company says that the air purifier’s cartridge can overheat, posing a risk of fire. P3 has received 10 reports of purifiers melting or catching fire, but no reports of injuries. The recalled air purifiers were sold at various retailers nationwide, including mail-order and Internet retailers, from January 2003 through July 2004 for between $60-90.
