Langfeld pointed to the creation of the Federal Real Property Council in 2004 as part of the response to Executive Order 13327 that same year. Christopher Coneeney, Realty Specialist for the GSA presented an in-depth look into the Federal Real Property Profile (FRPP). He explained that the Federal Real Property Council – an aggregation of federal agencies with major real estate holdings/interests – serves as clearinghouse of best practices and supports the Senior Real Property Officers (SRPO) in each agency. open Standards Consortium for Real Estate (oSCRE) Executive Director of OSCRE Andy Fuhrman provided an update on the consortium’s initiative to introduce an open platform of data standards to create industry-wide system interoperability. Fuhrman described the corporate real estate (CRE) supply chain as “highly fragmented” across a wide spectrum of service providers and end users that “can be improved with standards and interoperability.” Both have been attained in other industries such as automotive and airline, resulting in big cost savings and more efficiency. Northern california discovery Forum Hosts: Symantec, CoreNet Global Northern California Chapter Sponsor: Cushman & Wakefield Sprint Nextel Mosaic Presentation Sprint Nextel National Portfolio Strategy Manager Charemon Tovar, MCR, shared an in-depth summary of the company’s MOSAIC platform. The case is a winner for the prestigious 2007 H. Bruce Russell Global Innovator’s Award (see related article in this issue). JDS Uniphase Terry Wood, Director of Workplace Solutions at JDSU, presented a special case study on “CRE Leadership: A Transformation Perspective.” The dotcom crash of 2001 set the tone for the deep-seated and “drastic” challenges that would follow. “We weren’t organized for a turn-around,” Wood related. Cisco Systems Dave Clute, CCRE Practice Lead, Cisco Connected Real Estate, presented on his group’s Buildings of the Future program. Being “connected” is the reason for “the use of technology and process to create more operational efficiency for occupants and owners.” chicago discovery Forum Hosts: Motorola, CoreNet Global Chicago Chapter Social Network Analysis Joanie Reid, Director, Workplace Knowledge for Herman Miller, presented research findings on the nature of social network interactions in a recent study conducted by the Working Knowledge Research Center at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. The basis of the research was the growing realization of the importance of knowledge workers and their performance potential. The Future of Work at Capital one Joel Ratekin, Director of Workplace Strategy at Capital One, shared Capital One’s innovative program to deploy workplace solutions at the firm. Capital One sees three drivers that are defining the evolution of work and workspace in the future.
