The Leader - January/February 2008 - (Page 78) car eer developmeNt by jennie lazarus todd anderson thriving in a World of change In the rapidly changing world of corporate real estate (CRE), Todd Anderson, MCR, SLCR, has enjoyed success by adhering to his belief of working to his strengths, partnering and teamwork. In his 25-year career, he has answered the challenge to do his part in leading the industry in the partnering of services delivery to national and global organizations. As Senior Managing Director, Global Corporate Services, CB Richard Ellis, Inc., he has blazed a very successful career path. Anderson credits his professional success to joining Cushman Realty Corporation in 1995 and CB Richard Ellis in 2006. Anderson states that Cushman Realty Corporation is dedicated to delivering the highest level of multi-discipline services for individual large clients and that CB Richard Ellis focuses on integrating a global footprint of offices with a broad platform of real estate service lines into a seamless delivery to its clients’ portfolios of properties. Through his employment with these two firms, Anderson has aligned his talents with a focus on the part of business to which he can contribute the most value. Anderson believes that career professionals needs to align their talents with the firm that focuses on the part of business to which they can contribute the most value. According to Anderson, the field of CRE is changing dramatically, for the better. His advice for advancing a career in CRE is to “fear the status quo, forget about your weaknesses, partner and team. Learn what your core strengths are, focus solely on them, and never stop advancing your career to further enhancing them.” CoreNet Global has been, and continues to be, an important component of Anderson’s profession and he credits the association for playing an important role in his career. “CoreNet Global is essential for career professionals just to stay abreast of the industry. The relationships that develop over the years, the evolution of careers, the sharing of ideas and learning through specialized industry curriculum are where the contrasts and comparison, innovations and solutions incubate. People are the drivers of change, and we are those people.” Anderson speaks of the Executive Development Program (EDP) as being invaluable in his career to challenge him to learn, understand and participate in the evolution of partnering between real estate service firms and the business of the largest global class of property owners and lessors, corporations. When asked if there has been a surprising or unusual turn in his career path, Anderson speaks of joining the EDP faculty ten years ago. He began with the intent of sharing his knowledge with his peers, but has come away “learning more about the industry than I knew there was to know.” He stresses that the friendships (not networks) developed through his involvement with EDP are among the most meaningful ones he has. It should also be noted that Anderson has received the Master of Corporate Real Estate (MCR) designation and the Senior Leader of Corporate Real Estate (SLCR) certificate. It is no wonder that Anderson is a regular CoreNet Global speaker, contributing author of articles, as well as a “Top Rated” faculty member of the EDP program each consecutive year since 2000. 2 0 0 8 the le ade r 78 J aN Ua rY / F e B rUa r Y
