The Leader - January/February 2009 - (Page 54) IN D U S T RY p R o f I l e : a S c eN Da S with the important value placed on competent employees, have prompted more companies to explore work arrangements that fit the best of both worlds.” It’s all part of what CoreNet Global’s Corporate Real Estate 2010 (CoRE 2010) research program refers to as “the new social contract.” The contract says that companies offer high-quality and environmentally responsible working environments and flexible working terms for their employees and in return employees are more productive, healthier and satisfied. Ascendas has linked itself to this important new model knowing it also implies the emergence of other key workplace and development drivers: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. CoRE 2010, published in 2004, forecasted the importance of CSR today. A separate study done by IBM Business Solutions in 2008 validated it. “According to the 2008 IBM Global CEO Study, corporate social responsibility is an important issue for chief executives. As a result, the lines between work, life and volunteering will blur,” commented Teresa Lim, director of IBM Singapore. The Ascendas philosophy of the built environment and the work settings or practices within and outside them is very much on track with this view. Through our consultation with our customers and understanding of their needs, we have identified a comprehensive set of emerging business needs that will shape business space demand. These include: Green workspace Intelligent workplace Business Eco-system Flexible workspace It’s all part of a holistic view of asset management that Ascendas espouses: “We are also committed to expand our business space footprint across Asia to offer our customers who are growing regionally an even better and wider range of business space solutions that not only cater to their needs, but inspire productivity and excellence.” With so much ‘AWS market share’ in a sense left to gain in Asia-Pac, Ascendas - as the company’s name implies - is rising to the occasion. Flagships include the Singapore Science Park, International Tech Park Bangalore in India, Dalian-Ascendas IT Park in China and Carmelray Industrial Park II in the Philippines.
