CONNECT WITH C ORENET GLOBA L by megan mccann A Bigger Picture: ExPANdING PROGRAms IN AsIA-PACIfIC Corporate real estate (CRE) professionals in the Asia-Pacific region have seen a dramatic increase in the number of educational and networking opportunities from CoreNet Global in the last couple of years. And their response has been overwhelmingly supportive of the programs available. Master of Corporate Real Estate (MCR) seminars have long been offered in Asia-Pacific, including the final requirement for the MCR, the Capstone course. And for the first time in late 2008 an MCR seminar was offered in Dubai. Members representing multinational companies like Shell, GE, Standard Chartered Bank, and Cisco, as well as more regional companies like Pacific Realm International Group, City Space and Dubai International Finance Center were in attendance. Johnson Controls sponsored the event and Haworth was the networking host. India has the largest chapter in the region, with the largest concentration of members in Mumbai, the site of the 2008 Asia Summit. At the one-day Forum at Bangalore, held in late November, attendees explored the role that corporate real estate plays in responding to the current economic climate in India. Strategies for dealing with current market challenges were presented and debated by some of the leading corporate real estate professionals in the region. The Singapore chapter boasts one of the CBRE’s Todd Anderson instructs the Real Estate Transactions mCR seminar in Hong Kong at Le meridien Cyberport. deloite’s matthew sze (not pictured) was also an instructor for the class. most organized and active chapters in the region and the chapter recently hosted its first Symposium. The well-attended event covered themes including the Global Financial Crisis, Sustainability, Location and Portfolio Strategies, and Transforming Business Culture. The Hong Kong chapter has recently been reorganized, including all-new leadership. A mini-MCR program was recently conducted there, and more events are planned for Hong Kong. For 2009, there are several events scheduled throughout the region, including individual chapter events, CoRE workshops, an increased number of Discovery Forums, the CoreNet Global Summit in Macau, MCR courses and symposiums. To handle the additional membership needs, CoreNet Global recently retained a dedicated membership services professional, Cathy Thomas, located in Thailand.
