Alternative gathering and community spaces include: café areas, banquettes and informal meeting areas on all floors For Pitney Bowes, an important component of the renoCONSTRUCTION vation project was to create MANAGEMENT a collaborative work environment that would foster innovation and increase proENGINEERING ductivity through cross-pollination and idea generation. The project achieved this INTERIOR DESIGN goal through drastic reductions in private space, to allow for much greater pubPROGRAM lic and collaborative spaces. MANAGEMENT Lower workstation panel heights and glass fronts on private offices combine to FACILITY MANAGEMENT produce access to daylight and views as well as greater visibility to co-workers. A reduction in private space also allowed for an increase in conferencing and community space. In the original building design, the comCN_LeaderAd_Heery_1-30-08.indd pany had only 16 conference rooms. In the renovated space, the company has 8 video conference rooms, 14 large employees of a younger generation seeking a more dynamic workspace. Another integral component of the renovation was to create increased circulation between different sections of the building. Originally lined with private offices and high workstation partitions, the company created a continuous walkway along the south-facing side of the building, so that every employee could enjoy the sunshine and views of a neighboring park KNOWLEDGE, INNOVATION, EXPERIENCE and the waters of Long Island Sound. A new stairway connecting the third to sixth floors improves mobility and increases the odds of serendipitous encounters. The company believes that all of these changes are integral to fostering social networks and driving collaboration. BraNdiNG Pitney Bowes considered the renovation an opportunity to reinforce its brand and to emphasize company culture.
