The virtual work component of the work places a premium on the effectiveness of our electronic toolset and explains the growing popularity of our Halo studios as a tool to improve the quality of the remote collaboration experience. leader: The work is therefore less tied to a single place and becomes a network of contributors from all over? Hood: Every morning, 172,000 HP employees wake up and decide where they need to work that day. It’s the metaphor of constructing paths across the college quadrangle. We’re building a more efficient envelope around the work processes and practices, which now characterize this highly flexible and distributed team-centric work style, but are also improving work–life balance at the same time. It should be understood that HP did not drive this mobility. It happened all by itself, enabled by technology and a cultural understanding that it’s “what you do, not where you do it” that really matters. leader: HP appears to have some strong internal partnerships with IT and HR. leacH: We’ve made great strides over the last couple of years with our integration strategy and have very good relationships with internal partners in IT and HR. NolaN: Our workplace environments have a strong workplace products focus leveraging, naturally, our own products and branding values. Our connection to IT helps us also to leverage technology use in our space, examples being the deployment of wireless connectivity and VOIP voice solutions. And, having our Image and Printing organization, we also incorporate state-of-art printing solutions embracing as they do, matters of cost, quality and environmental impact. leader: How is workplace at HP contributing to growth of the businesses? leacH: Our Mergers and Acquisitions growth has been strong, but organic growth of the base business is happening as well. Our job is to streamline the accommodation of this growth and to do so, as much as possible, within the current infrastructure by continuing to make more efficient use of our existing portfolio. Our workplace organization has an important seat at the table in helping to drive these growth and expansion strategies.
