The Leader - March/April 2009 - (Page 89) YOUNG LEADER by Megan McCann Amy Brey, Associate for Office Properties and Development at Regent Partners Build Your Career through Networking and Education: REGENT PARTNERS’ AMY BREY Amy Brey has more than a bright future in corporate real estate (CRE), she has a pretty bright present. After earning her Master’s Degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta, she joined Regent Partners and currently works in their development group as an associate for Office Properties and Development. Brey credits her first role at Regent Partners as a Tenant Service Coordinator for giving her opportunities to learn a good deal about the industry and allowed her to transition to different sides of the business. At Regent, she has been able to play an integral team role for the company’s 3344 Peachtree/ Sovereign project, giving her valuable experience in marketing, leasing, project management and ground-up development. In addition to the hands-on experience she gains through her position at Regent Partners, Brey is continuing her education through CoreNet Global’s Master of Corporate Real Estate (MCR) program. She believes that education and networking will help her continue to build her career. Especially as the industry evolves, she believes corporate real estate will play a more and more important role to the business in the eyes of the C-Suite. “I see the future of the Corporate Real Estate and Workplace industry changing to accommodate technology needs, communityoriented developments and enhancing the productivity environment,” Brey explains. “I believe that given the impact that CRE has on the corporate balance sheet, there will be an ever-growing demand on the CRE professional to demonstrate and practice the most efficient use possible of capital.” Brey’s advice to those beginning their careers in these uncertain times is simple. “Networking, networking, networking, and ongoing education, education, education,” she says. “Building and sustaining relationships within the real estate community and with those with whom you can share experiences is an integral part of learning, understanding, and making a positive impact in the business.” Brey is a native of Wisconsin, currently residing in Atlanta. After studying Sociology at the University of WisconsinMadison, Brey received a Master of Science in Sports Administration from Georgia State University and is also a licensed real estate salesperson in the State of Georgia. “Given the impact that CRE has on the corporate balance sheet, there will be an evergrowing demand on the CRE professional to demonstrate and practice the most efficient use possible of capital.” Of course the current economic climate will have a significant impact on the industry. “Flexibility, communication and change within the organization will be very important in this current economy,” Brey says. “The CRE’s ability to adjust and support bottom line earnings and costs will become more critical than perhaps ever before.” 2 0 0 9 TH E LEADE R 89 MARCH / APRIL
