The $40 million West Manchester Township project entails building renovations, leasehold improvements, and the acquisition of new machinery and equipment. cancer research in tampa Gets $45 Million public Boost The Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, one of the United States’ elite NIH cancer research centers, recently announced a venture with Merck that promises to revolutionize the way cancer is diagnosed and treated by identifying unique genetic causes of cancer. Moffitt has successfully funded its cooperative venture with Merck. Biggins Lacy Shapiro & Company (BLS) served as Moffitt’s financial advisor on the public financing required under the project’s ambitious business plan. The public financing package totaled more than $45 million, which constituted more than one-fourth of the total project capitalization. Gilbert, ariz.’s loop 202 corridor continues Growth Gilbert, Ariz.’s Loop 202 corridor is a major transportation link from the southeast valley to the Phoenix metropolitan area, the Loop 202 corridor is emerging as a leading employment center. Two of the latest projects along the corridor include Gilbert’s 202 Commerce Center, a 50-acre, 577,000 sq. ft. (53,605 sq. m.) light industrial park and the Reserve at Santan, a 37-acre (15-hectare) business park offering over 300,000 sq. ft. (27,871 sq. m.) of office and flex space. The Pecos/Val Vista intersection in Gilbert was recently named the 7th hottest intersection by the Urban Land Institute. That area has already attracted some of the community’s most noteworthy projects including Rome Towers, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center and the SanTan Motorplex. World Bank partners with turkey on economic Development Financing program The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors announced a new Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) of the World Bank Group with Turkey for 2008-2011. The strategy anticipates World Bank financing for programs of the Turkish government, or guarantee by the government, up to US$ 6.2 billion during the 4-year period. In addition it provides for financing of private-sector investments by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and scope for guarantees against non-commercial risks from the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). IFC and MIGA are members of the World Bank Group. The Bank Group’s partnership strategy with Turkey is grounded in Turkey’s own development agenda — the 9th Development Plan. The goal of the strategy is to contribute to improving the lives and opportunities for all Turkish people so Turkey approaches, over time, the levels of income and development in other OECD countries and in the EU. Other Turkish projects and programs that the Bank Group helped finance include the structural retrofitting of schools and hospitals to withstand major earthquakes; investments in and credit to private Turkish companies to support innovation, the adoption of technology, and expansion to export markets; targeted assistance to poor families with children to allow children to go to school; the modernization of agricultural practices and policies; and the phase-out of ozone depleting substances. largest exhibition center opens in Beijing The New China International Exhibition Center (NCIEC), designed by TVS, an international planning, architecture and interiors design firm, is the largest mixed-use exhibition center in China and sets a new benchmark for attracting large and small trade shows to Beijing.
