The HX concept debuting in Detroit may provide hints about future product. The HX concept also is GM’s answer to the Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle is a little wider and a little shorter than the H3. The twodoor, four-seat concept has a removable roof that allows the HX to be configured as a square-back SUV, fastback or pickup. The fenders and doors are removable. When they are removed, the HX looks like a tall dune buggy. While GM executives will not acknowledge that an HX-like vehicle is planned, industry sources expect sales for the 2009 model year. The H3 vehicle architecture would not be used, GM sources say. HYUNDAI Hyundai will show the production version of the 2009 Genesis sedan that will go on sale this summer. The car will be Hyundai’s first U.S. rearwheel-drive sedan, with the first U.S. V-8. KIA Kia will unveil the 2009 Borrego, a seven-seat mid-sized SUV. Sales begin in late spring or early summer. The Borrego is based on a stretched version of the body-on-frame platform used for the Sorento. A V-6 is standard; Kia’s first V-8 is optional. The Borrego will be built in Korea. Land Rover says it rides on a new platform. The fourseat LRX is almost a car, given that its ground clearance is a mere 6 inches.
