Automotive News - September 8, 2008 - (Page 37) SEPTEMBER 8, 2008 • 37 TRW to supply Chinese sedan DETROIT — TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. will supply seat belts, airbags and other occupant safety products for SAIC Motor’s Roewe 550 sedan. SAIC Motor is a unit of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. TRW also is supplying side-impact, rollover and lane-departure warning sensors; antilock brakes; and electronic stability control systems for the Roewe 550. Most of the products will be built in China. The seat belt system, for example, is built by a joint venture between TRW and SAIC. TRW Automotive, of suburban Detroit, makes electronics and safety systems and braking and engine components. Sweden, blames the cuts on declining orders that have resulted from poor new-car sales in the United States and Europe. The company says Sweden has been hit particularly hard by the slowdown in car sales. In Sweden, IAC has plants in Fargelanda, Gothenburg, Skara, Tidaholm and Tanum. IAC, with European headquarters in Krefeld, Germany, makes interior and exterior components and systems. Polytec to acquire Peguform HOERSCHING, Austria — Polytec Holding AG plans to buy rival Peguform Group from the U.S. private equity fund Cerberus Capital Management. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cerberus, which took over Peguform in 2005, also has majority control of Chrysler LLC. Polytec estimates that the two companies will have combined annual sales of about 2.2 billion euros, or $3.22 billion at current exchange rates. The merged company’s top customers will be Seat, BMW and Volkswagen. Polytec, of Hoersching, produces door panels, headliners and engine parts for customers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. Peguform, of Boetzingen, Germany, makes bumpers, front-end modules, cockpits and door panels. in Poggio Rusco, Italy, to AB SKF, of Goteborg, Sweden. GLO designs, develops and produces constant-velocity joints. The SKF Group supplies rolling bearings, seals, mechatronics, services and lubrication systems. Proceeds from the sale will be used to pay debt or for general funding. Metaldyne, of suburban Detroit, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Asahi Tec, of Shizuoka, Japan. The company supplies chassis and powertrain components. make parts for local manufacturers and for export. It will be FederalMogul’s seventh plant in India. Federal-Mogul, of suburban Detroit, makes pistons, rings, liners, bearings, gaskets, seals, heat shields and friction materials. Beck, Delphi make pact DETROIT — Delphi Corp. has reached a licensing agreement with Beck Aluminum to produce and market Delphi’s K-Alloy, a die casting alloy that resists corrosion. The agreement aims to increase the use of K-Alloy among die casters. Beck Aluminum, of Cleveland, supplies aluminum alloys. Delphi, of suburban Detroit, makes powertrain, safety, and control and security systems. Federal-Mogul to build India plant DETROIT — Federal-Mogul Corp. will build a brake and friction components plant in Chennai, India. The plant, scheduled to begin production in September 2009, will Metaldyne to sell Italy operation DETROIT — Metaldyne Corp. has agreed to sell its GLO S.r.L. operation Dana to shift HQ by Sept. ’09 TOLEDO, Ohio — Dana Holding Corp. will leave its ornate corporate headquarters of 38 years by September 2009. The supplier is moving the headquarters to its technology center eight miles away in suburban Toledo. The move allows Dana to consolidate local operations, Executive Chairman John Devine said in a statement. Dana has 35,000 employees worldwide. More than 1,000 are in the Toledo area, and 175 are in the current headquarters. The company makes axles, driveshafts and structural, sealing and thermal management products. Tenneco to supply Volvo XC60 LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Tenneco Inc. will supply an electronic suspension system as an option for the 2009 Volvo XC60 crossover. Tenneco’s system adjusts shock absorber damping levels to driver inputs, road conditions and vehicle dynamics. The shock absorbers are made at Tenneco’s Ermua, Spain, plant. Tenneco, of Lake Forest, makes exhaust components and systems, shocks, struts and suspension systems and elastomer products. BMW gets Siemens conveyors ATLANTA — Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. will supply conveyors and end-of-the-line testing systems for BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, S.C. BMW will use the conveyors at its door and engine monorails and stacker areas. Siemens will provide design and be general contractor. The Spartanburg plant makes the BMW Z4 sports car and X5 and X6 crossovers. Siemens Energy & Automation, of Alpharetta, Ga., is a division of Siemens AG. It specializes in energy management and process control systems, industrial software and technical services. IAC to cut 280 jobs in Sweden GOTHENBURG, Sweden — International Automotive Components Group will cut 280 jobs in Sweden.
