It was the biggest month-over-month percentage drop since July 1998 (vs. July 1997). Last month, the American Axle strike closed several General Motors plants; also, because of Easter, there were three fewer production days than in March 2007. Those factors accounted for 75 percent of the March drop. North America car output fell 15.2 percent in March. North America truck production fell 29.5 percent.
