Since 2001, the dealership group has donated $25 for each vehicle sold at all of its stores to Shepherd’s Door. To celebrate another year of support, Rasmussen’s Mercedes-Benz of Portland hosted the program’s moms and kids for a book reading and refreshments, below. During the event, at left, the dealership group’s owner — Greg Rasmussen, center — gave a check for $80,000 to Eric Bauer, executive director of the Portland Rescue Mission, and Jan Marshall, director of women’s ministries at Shepherd’s Door. ■ Dream machine How do you ensure your car will turn heads at a gathering of aircraft lovers? You create the Ford Mustang AV8R, a one-of-a-kind vehicle. The exterior features an aviation-inspired satin finish and an open-sky canopy. Inside, there are distressed-bomber-jacket leather inserts and trim panels and autographs from celebrities such as auto racing legend Carroll Shelby and actor Harrison Ford. The AV8R sold for $500,000 at a charity auction during the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 in Oshkosh, Wis. Proceeds from the sale will support the association’s efforts to prepare young people to become engineers, pilots and innovators. In the top photo, Harrison Ford, left, and Edsel Ford II sign the AV8R. Above, they congratulate the AV8R buyer, Tom Gonzales. http://www.Pick-n-ClickAds.com http://www.Pick-n-ClickAds.com
