Hall, President & CEO Mexico sales rise 1.2% in June Light-vehicle sales in Mexico edged up 1.2 percent in June compared with June 2007 to 81,425 units. For the first half of 2008, sales of light-vehicles slipped 1.3 percent to 513,910. Nissan Motor Co. overtook General Motors as Mexico’s top-selling automaker in June, selling 910 more vehicles than GM. Nissan’s sales rose 14.0 percent to 17,291 units; GM’s sales dipped 0.6 percent to 16,381. Volkswagen AG sold the third-most vehicles in Mexico last month, but its sales declined 5.2 percent to 11,105. In contrast to U.S. consumers, Mexicans continued buying trucks last month. Total light-truck sales rose 2.3 percent to 34,081. Passengercar sales rose 0.4 percent to 47,344. June’s sales numbers show an increasing number of Mexican consumers purchasing Mexico-made vehicles. Domestic vehicle sales were up 14.0 percent in June from last year to 32,930.
