Novem also has come out with a line of parts using real wood on plastic — products that it hopes will win business from companies that make plastic parts masquerading as wood. North American revenue of $80 million this year will be about flat compared with 2007, said Andrea Long, Novem sales manager in suburban Detroit. Novem Car Interior is the North American arm of Novem Group, of Vorbach, Germany. In June, Barclays Private Equity bought the parent company from private equity investors Taros Capital and 3i. Terms were not disclosed. With global sales of about $386.5 million, the Novem Group is a leading maker of hardwood, aluminum and carbon fiber trim for doors, dashboards and other interior uses. Novem’s customers include most of the German luxury automakers as well as the Detroit 3 and Nissan Motor Co. Recently, Novem developed a less expensive laminate product, called TruWood, which it now offers to customers. The laminated wood-on-plastic parts will cost about one-third the price of premium wood parts, said Oliver Aheimer, Novem’s program manager. The company will produce the laminate parts in the same factory in Honduras that produces the premium wood parts, he said.
