WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling about 858,000 cars and trucks built for the 2006-08 model years because a system that heats windshield washer fluid sometimes malfunctions. GM told regulators that a short in a circuit board for the fluid heater, called HotShot, can disrupt operation of other electrical features, produce smoke and odor and create a fire hazard. The system was produced by Microheat Inc., of suburban Detroit. Dealers will install a wire harness that contains a fuse, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Dealers will have enough parts in stock to begin making repairs around Nov. 1, said GM spokeswoman Carolyn Markey. The affected vehicles are the 200608 Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS and Hummer H2; the 2008 Buick Enclave; and 2007-08 models of the Saturn Outlook, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe and GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL. Investigators found three reports of fires and 34 possibly related warranty claims. Fix: Reinforce fuel tank mounting bracket. Number: 7,200. 1998-2003 CLASS MERCEDES-BENZ M Other GM repairs GM also is recalling about 89,000 vehicles in wintry-weather states because snow or ice buildup on the windshield can cause a wiper linkage to detach from the wiper motor. Affected vehicles are the 2008 Buick Enclave and 2007-08 GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook. Dealers will install a new wiper crank arm, driver’s side link and crank arm nut, NHTSA said. An additional 13,000 Hummer H2 SUVs built for the 2003 model year are being recalled so dealers can replace a windshield wiper module cover. Water can enter the wiper motor and cause it to fail, NHTSA said. And GM said it is recalling about 42,000 Saturn Vues built for the 200809 model years so dealers can ensure that a power-steering line is attached securely to the power-steering pump. Leaking fluid can ignite on hot exhaust parts, NHTSA noted. The rest of the list Here are other recalls that automakers reported to NHTSA: 2009 SUBARU FORESTER; 2008 IMPREZA; 2007-08 LEGACY Problem: Oil supply pipe to turbocharger cracks on cylinder-head side, leaking oil on hot components and creating a fire hazard.
