Dacia sees quick rise for Sandero
Dacia Sandero
T
he second-generation Dacia Sandero hatchback is expected to quickly
become the best-selling model for
Renault’s budget brand, overtaking the
Duster small SUV. The Sandero’s low
price, combined with strong demand
in Europe for subcompact hatchbacks,
will help the car generate high-volume
sales, said David Holderbach, Renault’s
entry-range product director. “There is
a huge demand waiting to be tapped
for this type of car,” Holderbach said.
“Many European customers want an
affordable hatchback in a subcompact size that is roomy enough for five
adults.” Market forecasters IHS Automotive predict that the Sandero will
outsell the Duster within two years.

Paceman takes Mini into unknown
M
ini executives admit they’re not
sure of their target customer for
the new three-door Paceman, which
is based on the Countryman compact
crossover. “We’re not in the market
yet, so we don’t have any real customer experience,” said Graeme Grieve,
Mini’s sales head.

five-door Countryman but may decide
to buy a Paceman instead, he said.
Like its bigger rival, the Range Rover
Evoque, the three-door Paceman,
brings coupe styling to a tall car. The
Paceman’s styling is radical for Mini
because it includes for the first time
horizontal taillights, a departure for
a brand that has always referenced
the original iconic Mini of the 1950s
for its design, including vertical rear
lights.
