Additives to make debut from
Chemtura, Addivant, Omya

Additives makers Chemtura
Corp., Addivant and Omya International AG (all in Hall
6/E24) will be looking to make
plastics better at K 2013.
Philadelphia-based Chemtura, through its Great Lakes Solutions unit, will be introducing
two new polymeric flame retardants under its Emerald Solutions trade name. The materials
are the result of the company’s
commitment to sustainable
products that minimize the impact on the environment, officials said in a news release.
Emerald Innovation 1000 can
replace commonly used flame
retardants in polyolefin and
styrenic resin systems. Emerald
Innovation 3000 can be used in
extruded and expanded polystyrene in place of hexabromocyclododecane flame retardants.
Chemtura also will unveil Axion MAO-brand activators, used
in the catalyst systems of advanced elastomer production,
that let customers tailor products to specific catalyst needs.
Chemtura is one of the world’s
largest additives makers, with
annual sales of $2.6 billion.
Addivant — a Middlebury,
Conn.-based firm formed last
year after private equity firm SK
Capital bought Chemtura’s antioxidant and ultraviolet light
stabilizer business — will be focusing on ways to save customers energy, time and money, President and CEO Peter
Smith said in a news release.
Applications spotlighted by
Addivant will include food-storage containers, beverage cups
and interior automotive components. The firm has annual
sales of about $500 million.
Omya, based in Oftringen,
Switzerland, will spotlight its
line of calcium carbonates. In
the last three years, the firm
has developed its Direct Addition technology and has enlarged its Hydrocarb-brand calcium carbonates for PVC
extrusion in the building and
construction markets.
Omya also will highlight its
Omyacarb and Omyafilm materials for use in film extrusion,
caps and closures, sheet extrusion and extrusion coating. The
firm employs 7,000 at more
than 100 locations worldwide.
