Calling male
CEOs across
the tristate area:
The limelight is
beckoning as
Palladino
Casting seeks a
small business
owner to star in
a new reality-television series. The
yet-to-be-named show is
searching for CEOs who need to
get back on track after a personal
or professional setback.
According to a source close to
the project, former New York
Ranger Sean Avery (above) will
host the show, which will feature
one CEO per episode. A pilot is
being produced for CNBC. “We are
focusing on high-end business,”
the inside source said. “It’s all
about one-on-one male coaching.”
Mr. Avery, known for his
competitive edge on the ice, will
show no mercy as he whips the
executives back into shape. The
onetime left wing, who retired
from professional hockey last year,
runs two of his own small
businesses in the city, the Warren 77
sports bar and Tiny’s restaurant.
The CEOs should be “ready to
tackle any obstacles facing their
business,” according to an open
casting call on Palladino’s Facebook
page. A camera-ready smile and an
ace slapshot may not hurt, either.

HAVING A BALL:
Revelers rock out at
Governors Ball 2012
on Randall’s Island.
The name Pussy Riot elicits giggles,
but the Russian punk feminist
protesters’ story is no laughing
matter. HBO premiered Pussy Riot:
A Punk Prayer last week at the
Landmark Sunshine Theater on
the Lower East Side. Patti Smith
introduced the documentary, which
follows three of the members from
their ill-fated human-rights protest
at Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ
the Savior through a sham trial that
resulted in a two-year sentence at a
penal colony. Throughout their
trial, the women remained defiant
against President Vladimir Putin and
what they deem a repressive
regime.
After the screening, Yekaterina
Samutsevich, whose sentence was
suspended, joined the audience via
Skype. “What we’re protesting
against is still in place and it has
gotten worse,” she said through a
translator. Moments later, other
Riot members Headlight and Puck,
in signature neon balaclavas (now
banned in Russia), appeared in
person. “We cannot carry out any
activities on behalf of the group,”
said Headlight. “Our activities are
deemed extremist.” To help free
the two members who remain
imprisoned, she said, “Write letters
and pose awkward questions to our
political representatives. And
protest near Russian embassies.”

ew York City finally has a happening festival to brag about. The
Governors Ball Music Festival returned to Randall’s Island this past
weekend for its second year there. What began as a one-day, 12-act event
on Governors Island in 2011 has blossomed into a three-day extravaganza
with 70 acts and four stages. It attracted about 45,000 visitors per day this
year, selling out three-day passes and single-day tickets weeks ahead of
time. Attendees came from all over the country as well as from overseas.
¶ “Our goal was to establish Governors Ball as the New York City festival.
We wanted our hometown to have a festival to call its own,” said Jordan Wolowitz, co-president of
Manhattan-based Founders Entertainment, which produces the show. ¶ While nearly every
major music market has such a festival—whether it’s Austin City Limits, Chicago’s Lollapalooza
or San Francisco’s Outside Lands—the New York market has been tough on the industry. During
the past 10 years, seven large-scale festivals have come and gone. ¶ But music-industry experts say
Founders Entertainment appears to have cracked the code, creating the
