EDITOR’S NOTEBOOK The Few, The Proud The benefits of being an Intercoiffure America/ Canada salon are more than just business-related— they’re personal. Every May and October, Launchpad is on hand at two of the top events in the professional beauty industry: Intercoiffure’s Spring Symposium and Fall Atelier. Stage presentations from the likes of Wella Professionals, Oribe, Matrix, Keratin Complex and Paul Mitchell dazzle attendees. Soirees allow members to network and connect. And the fashion director presents the new trend release illustrating the latest directions in fashion and beauty. (As editor of the organization’s official publication, I got a sneak peek at this season’s release, and those of you lucky enough to be at this year’s Atelier will be wowed!) For those of you wondering how Intercoiffure involvement might help your salon, I talked to a few members. Walter Porta, owner of W-Salon in Madison, Connecticut, became an Intercoiffure member in 2008. “Being a member of Intercoiffure has given me incredible inspiration, passion and balance in my art form and business,” Porta explains. “Becoming a part of such a wonderful organization of camaraderie has fueled creativity, innovative business practices, and an inspiring associate program for my salon. W-Salon has taken part in photo shoots, award venues and celebrity styling.” Porta goes on to say how the semiannual events help motivate him and his salon. “Conversations with some of the most sought-after artists in our industry have encouraged everyone in W-Salon to uphold Industry icon Oribe onstage with his models at last year’s Atelier. what it means to be a part of Intercoiffure.” To become an Intercoiffure member, your salon must be recommended by a current member salon owner. This recently happened for Tony Odisho, owner of Chicago’s Exsalonce Salon and Day Spa, who will be pinned at the Atelier this month. “Intercoiffure has been instrumental in connecting me with our industry’s most successful leaders,” Odisho smiles. “As a salon owner, I greatly benefit from learning the newest business and hair fashion trends. This organization is really centered around education…I have learned so much already from my new friends at Intercoiffure!” And friendship is what it’s truly all about, says ICA president Lois Christie. “You’ll meet the most successful salon owners, as well as the industry’s top artists and educators,” smiles the owner of Bayside, New York’s Christie & Co. Salon and Spa. “I can personally vouch for the value of these contacts.
