of its new New York City-based academy, Moroccanoil (moroccanoil. com) endeavors to combine styling basics with an advanced facility— ultimately accommodating stylists of every level through on-site, customized education. The early intel promises hands-on interaction, with attendees receiving demonstrations and personalized attention from internationally renowned celebrity, runway and editorial stylists who’ll share cutting-edge techniques and the latest trends. “There are so many cutting and color classes out there, but we decided to take a different approach because we’re a styling brand that focuses on the art of hairstyling,” Robert Ham, director of education, explains. “We want to teach the foundations—core principles, such as how to do a proper mask. As we grow, we’ll offer more advanced classes.” The education program will begin with four core courses: Luxury Blowout and Finishing, inspired by the blow-dry bar trend, instructs on signature Moroccanoil techniques for healthy-looking hair; The Art of Hairdressing covers perennially popular styles (think chignons, French twists and braiding); Trends of the Season features editorial and runway stylists breaking down runway looks and how to translate them to everyday salon clients; and Moroccanoil Up-Styling, which includes instruction on updos and working with wefts—potentially big moneymaking services for stylists. All are two-day seminars that boast a oneto-six teacher-to-student ratio, allowing for individual attention and a unified philosophy on stylists’ education. “We believe that our transformative products and tools are the

necessary foundations for our craftsmanshipfocused training,” Ham relates. “We also believe in setting and leading hair trends while inspiring others through direct involvement with internationally acclaimed fashion shows and creative editorial collaborations.” The academy will supplement Moroccanoil’s on-the-go education through distributors for its Loyalty Salons, while global educators facilitate in-salon class workshops and events, including stylist education, to enhance careers (and clients’ results) one step at a time. “The purpose of Moroccanoil’s department of education is to empower beautiful transformations,” Ham concludes. “We believe in the refined art of styling to rediscover hair’s natural beauty.” —Tracy Morin
