Pikes-Peak.com FASTER , HIGHER , STRONGER 37 T Faster, Higher, Stronger The 2012 Olympics will be held in London, but the torch will also burn bright in Colorado Springs, hometown of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the Colorado Springs U.S. Olympic Training Center (CSOTC). he Opening Ceremonies for the 2012 Games take place (in London, England) on Friday, July 27. On that night, the city will celebrate in style by hosting a big downtown bash in honor of the Rocky Mountain State Game participants who will be in town competing in a variety of events. During the party, the Opening Ceremonies will be broadcast on outdoor screens for all to enjoy. Everyone’s invited! The USOC headquarters building is located in downtown Colorado Springs on Tejon Street. The CSOTC is located just a few miles east of USOC headquarters on the corner of Boulder Street and Union Blvd. The mission of the CSOTC is to provide the best training support services in the world and to build and maintain state-of-the-art facilities that will provide the means and incentive to achieve athletic excellence. The onsite Visitor Center hosts approximately 140,000 visitors each year. It is the primary facility providing the general public with information about the U.S. Olympic Committee, U.S. Olympic Training Centers and the Olympic Movement. Free public tours are conducted on a yearround basis by USOC Ambassadors. The tour includes a 12-minute film and 45-minute walking tour of the complex. Nearly 70% of the tour is outof-doors. During the tour, visitors will have the opportunity to view athlete training facilities including Sport Center Gymnasiums, weightlifting and wrestling facilities, the USA Shooting Center, Coaching & Sport Science, the Aquatics Center, and Sport Medicine. Tours run from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Saturday. Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more.  Please call if you are bringing guests with special needs who might benefit from a separate, private tour.   To make reservations or make special arrangements, call 719-866-4656.
