1:30 pm-3:30 pm 10:00 am-11:30 am response Planning for critical incidents enhanced carbine of the future Networking lunch Ed Allen, Don Kester James C. Johnson This seminar provides a brief overview of real-world, significant, critical incidents (Gabby Gifford shooting and George Zimmerman Trial), and the key lessons learned from each, including the need for thorough operational planning, appropriate resource allocation, and thorough pre-incident training and exercises. The MCX was a partnership-based project for the Department of Defense and other NATO clients that allowed the Sig Sauer Special Weapons Development Group an opportunity to showcase its capabilities for the broader good of law enforcement and military members around the world. The issues that needed to be addressed were reliability, accuracy, suppression, modularity and ease of maintenance. Network exclusively with other law enforcement agencies and the editors of Law Officer Magazine! wEdnESday, January 15 8:15 am-9:45 am law enforcement state-of-the-art aiming systems Frank J. Martello This presentation addresses the capabilities of tactical magnified optics beyond just hitting the target. The potential these optics offer the patrol officer and SWAT operator in the areas of threat identification, force decision making, intelligence gathering and enhanced effectiveness in low-light situations transcends their primary role as an accuracy tool. It also covers the use of reflex sights on rifles, shotguns and service/off duty handguns, their ability to double the effective range of a service handgun, their usefulness in mitigating the vision correction issues experienced by all officers as they get older and accuracy in low-light shooting scenarios. 8:15 am-10:15 am recruiting and retaining today's tactical officer Ed Allen, Don Kester This seminar provides insight into the mindset and values of today's tactical law enforcement officer and why practices used by agencies just a few short years ago no longer work to recruit and retain them. Discussions also include the qualities that aspiring tactical officers should focus on when applying for entry-level and leadership positions within a tactical team. ® This project created a mission-configurable, reliable battle rifle for the user. What this means to law enforcement officials is their existing inventories can be upgraded to deliver safe, reliable and effective suppression-capable weapons. In this session, learn how these compact variations of the MCX can be configured in multiple calibers and lengths that fit into tight spaces such as the saddlebag of a motorcycle. The MCX suppressed weapon shapes our ability to look after the long-term health of our officers through limiting hearing loss. With the expanded demands of the law enforcement officer, it is imperative to deliver a modular weapon system that takes into consideration the effects on the target and the officer. The MCX provides an alternative to equipping uniform and plain-clothes law enforcement officers (when concealment is key to success and safety). Law enforcement professionals deserve a weapon that has the ability to deliver the performance parameters of the 21st century in size, noise reduction and reliability. 10:30 am-11:30 am Development of PistonDriven ar systems and their impact on law enforcement carbines & rifles Bob Schultz AR rifles are now widely accepted in law enforcement, fulfilling a role beyond their use solely by tactical teams. This presentation tracks the evolution of the AR system, its use in law enforcement and the development of practical piston-driven alternatives to direct impingement operating systems with an emphasis on the HK416 and its derivatives. Topics covered include piston-driven systems as patrol carbines and for tactical team use, law enforcement and military case studies of AR piston-driven systems, 5.56 mm and 7.62 capabilities, and the role of marksman and precision variants of the law enforcement rifle and carbine for the individual officer. 11:45 am-1:00 pm Registration required, tickets $35 1:00 pm-2:30 pm lessons learned on building and operating a gun range Tim Holley This session focuses on many of the unforeseen issues customers, law enforcement officers, range masters and owners experience when operating an indoor firing range. More specifically, the presentation outlines material pros and cons by showing real examples of types of target carrier systems, bullet traps and ballistic protection materials. Meggitt describes the proper types of equipment to be installed in shooting ranges, such as the suggested target carrier systems for commercial ranges vs. law enforcement ranges, steel traps vs. rubber traps and many other pertinent "lessons learned." 2:45 pm-3:45 pm advancements in illumination technologies and their Positive impact on officer Decision making Kevin Skeehan While many aspects of law enforcement are hardly affected by technology (think handcuffs), other aspects are greatly influenced by it. Illumination technology is one such area in which technologies provide options never before available to law enforcement professionals. The light source itself (i.e., light emitting diodes (LED), arc lights), the power density of rechargeable batteries, optics design and materials have all experienced breakthrough performance improvements over the last five years. So much so that it is allowing the development of illumination products and applications never before conceived. This seminar details these advancements in illumination technologies that are allowing officers the ability to make better decisions, which reduce the number of deadly force incidents and in misidentifications in those incidents. shotshow.org 15 http://www.shotshow.org
