Colorado Singles Resource Guide - Fall 2007 - (Page 14) Chillin’ Dave Hieb by Margo Hamilton Denver-based investment banker, Dave Hieb, is a doting dad to 16 year old son Devin, and 12 year old daughter Darby. In his early 40’s, Dave has abundant energy to burn and cutting edge ideas to cultivate. As a partner at ClearCreek Partners, Dave helps companies that are raising capital through private placements with venture capital firms. ave is also a recognized community leader, and through his vision and direction, he is chairman of the WHEN I GROW UP Foundation (www.WhenIGrowUp.org). This amazing nonprofit organization provides youth aged 10-18 with career experiences through professional business mentors who volunteer their time and talents to provide career experiences. These experiences in turn give you what Dave describes as an “early and directed start in their career path”—something greatly needed in today’s society. Six years ago Dave co-invested with several others in a trendy Boulder restaurant named Triana. Dave’s marketing savvy compelled him to connect Denver and Boulder’s business crowd to convene at this trendy spot, known for its fabulous food and welcoming ambiance. “I was working in Denver, but living in Boulder at the time, and I love the energy and people from both cities,” David claims. By connecting them in this fashion it became a fun way for single and married people alike to connect socially or talk business—or some of each.” Dave continued to build on this concept that resonated with singles who enjoy meeting people at a hip soirée. That idea was the genesis of what is now known as Chillin’. When asked, Dave is quick to reveal that Chillin’s success, now after 6 years, is that the event is focused on the attendees themselves. If it were about me or about one particular venue it would get stale quickly. It’s a great way to meet people, and the demographic is comprised of up and coming urban sophisticated professionals from 20 to 40 years of age who are excited to empower their careers and meet others in the same genre. The people who attend Chillin’ events love to dress to impress. “We don’t see people wearing flip flops and shorts at these parties. The guys and girls definitely dress up for a “go out” night on the town whether it’s to meet one another, perhaps date or just enjoy networking.” Unlike a dating service, this isn’t a fee-based social network, and it doesn’t generate an income for Dave, who explains, “We don’t have members, per se, but we do have a rather large list of 1,400 people who are all connected to Dave with at most one degree of separation. The attendees range from people who are new to town to those that are well baked into the Denver community. People get on the “list” by going to the www.chillintime.com website and signing up. I hand select attendees for each event and personally send out eVites for the invitation-only events. I’m not a traditional event promoter, or for that matter, someone who’s looking to start anything that compares to online dating services. I just love hosting parties, and Chillin’ is a safe and fun environment where quality people can meet one another. Don’t think of it as a bar scene, but rather a refined affair where people know they are being taken care of and definitely enjoy themselves.” Dave has a passion for connecting people through business, and he’s taken the next step to drive his passion to connect people who desire to meet one another socially. “It’s easy to stop in your local sports bar or scan the web to find people wanting to meet people, but Chillin’ offers a unique and consistent opportunity to meet great people. Most people want to find that great partner, date and get married so at the end of the day we have companionship with that special someone. Although I’m divorced, I’m not disillusioned about with D 4 FALL 2007 http://www.WhenIGrowUp.org http://www.chillintime.com
