Where: Metro CU, The benefits of strong Chelsea, Mass. family ties to CUs: SeeOn being a third-generation CU executive: My also worked with both my grandfather and father. Some have been here for more than 30 years, sharing the industry’s common goals and objectives. Best advice: Be a good grandfather and father preceded me at Metro. Intrigued by the idea of helping people, my grandfather started as a credit union volunteer in the 1940s and later became the credit union’s treasurer/manager. So my father was exposed to credit unions at an early age. He even practiced his math skills by maintaining ledger cards for members’ share and loan balances. After serving in the Army and graduating from college, he told my grandfather he’d “give it [Metro] six months.” Last year my father celebrated his 50th year at Metro and is the current board chairman. How the CU movement has evolved: My grand- ing my family’s dedication to the movement and belief in the peoplehelping-people philosophy, I’m compelled to do what I can to perpetuate the movement and our institution. There’s great satisfaction in seeing how credit unions’ efforts help individuals and communities. I’m also fortunate to work with people who listener. It enables you to assess a situation and make the right decision. Personal motto: I don’t team (employees) and to win the championship (growth, service, and financial success). There are new teams (competition), and you need to call plays (your strategic plan) so at the end of the season (month, year) when you review the game films (balanced scorecard), you’ve been successful. New Year’s resolution: have a motto, but use sports analogies with staff because of the correlation between being a leader and a coach.
