This year's recipients are two highly regarded individuals who deeply support the next generation of hematologists. Tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., ASH will recognize John Adamson, MD, with the basic science award, and Stanley Schrier, MD, with the clinical investigation award. Dr. Adamson is clinical professor of medicine and associate director of the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Training Program at the University of California, San Diego. He has devoted his career to advancing the understanding of erythropoiesis and changing the clinical management of anemia. He served as the 1996 ASH president and editor of Blood from 1983 to 1987. His supportive, but not directive, approach to mentorship is what sets him apart as a role model and teacher. ASH President Janis L.
