to advocate for regulation of drug
shortages, NIH funding, and stem
cell research. Because of the ALI,
I have also become more active in
ASH and am now a participant on
some of ASH's standing committees. Of late, I have been urging my
congressional leaders to continue to
fund necessary medical research. I
have also been advocating for better quality cancer care by working
with several organizations across
the nation to pilot test a design
that I created. Further, I have been
working toward instilling advocacy
awareness among students on campus and Veterans Administration
employees as well.
Perhaps the most surprising and
welcoming aspect of the ALI was
not only the milestone I reached to
direct my future endeavors but also
the life-long friendships I made as
well as the collaborations with likeminded individuals on research
and other advocacy projects. The
ALI was one of the most influential experiences in my early career,
and I am grateful for ASH's dedication to this area. I give my thanks to
ASH's commitment and dedication

and actively participate in advocacy. This is a skill that our traditional medical education does not
teach, and, therefore, I thank you
ASH and the ALI, for helping me to
better understand and appreciate
advocacy on an individual, community, and societal level.

Car Rental
If you plan to rent a car, Hertz is
offering 2013 ASH Annual Meeting
attendees special rental car rates,
including unlimited mileage. Reservations can be made from all metro
New Orleans Hertz locations, online at www.hertz.com, or by calling

Parking
In New Orleans, parking outside
of designated lots is tricky and not
advised, especially to those unfamiliar with city parking regulations. It's
often best to leave the car parked in
the hotel garage for the duration of
your stay. There are also many parking lots surrounding the convention center. These lots are privately
owned and operated, and prices
vary. The fee for parking at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is
$10 per car for all-day parking.
How to Obtain a CME Certificate
I
f you plan to claim CME credit
for attending the meeting, you
may complete the process to
claim your CME credits and print
your CME certificate by completing the annual meeting program
evaluation on site at any of the Internet stations available at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Alternately, the evaluation can be
accessed through the ASH website (www.hematology.org) by clicking the CME link on the homepage. A processing fee of $25 will
be charged for CME certificates.
The online process for claiming
CME credits and printing a CME
certificate must be completed no
later than April 11, 2014.
