High Museum of Art
This museum was original
founded in 1905 as the Atlanta Art
Association; it received its first
permanent home in 1926, moved
to a new brick structure close to
the original High house in 1955,
and in 1968, the Atlanta Memorial

Arts Center opened with the High
Museum of Art at its center. The
museum houses more than 15,000
works of art in its permanent collection, with an extensive compilation
of 19th and 20th century American
and decorative art, European paintings, a growing collection of African American art, and collections
of modern and cotemporary art,
photography, folk and self-taught
